January 29, 2026

We’re delighted to share that Mumby’s Live-in Care has been named a Finalist in the 2026 Home Care Awards in the Palliative Care/End-of-Life Care category. The Home Care Awards recognise organisations across the UK that deliver outstanding quality, innovation and service. For our team, this shortlisting honours what matters most: dignity, comfort and truly person-centred support for people with advanced or life-limiting conditions, and steady reassurance for the families who love them.

“We are truly honoured to be named a finalist for this prestigious award,” said Ann Mumby, CEO of Mumby’s Live-in Care. “This recognition is a direct result of the hard work and compassion shown by our dedicated team, who are committed to delivering the highest level of care for our clients. We are grateful for the trust and support of the families we serve and remain focused on continuing to improve and innovate in home care services.”

We are excited to find out the results of the awards which will take place on March 6th – watch this space for an exciting announcement!

What palliative and end-of-life care means at Mumbys

Our palliative and end-of-life care enables clients to remain at home in familiar surroundings, supported by carefully matched live-in carers who prioritise dignity, symptom comfort and emotional wellbeing. Every plan is bespoke, flexing to each person’s needs – whether that’s managing complex symptoms, offering companionship, or guiding families through the emotional landscape of serious illness.

The pillars behind our approach

  • Person-centred matching
We match carers to clients by experience, personality and willingness to provide end-of-life support. Shared interests and a warm fit build trust quickly.
  • Holistic wellbeing
Integrating physical, emotional, social, and spiritual care empowers clients to remain at home surrounded by loved ones and for families to feel supported throughout.
  • Clinical partnerships
We collaborate closely with hospices, GPs, district nurses, hospitals, domiciliary agencies, community palliative teams and therapy teams (OT, physio, SALT) to ensure seamless, multidisciplinary care.
  • Family reassurance
With a consistent professional on hand, families can step back from constant vigilance and return to being partners, sons, daughters and friends.

Why the judges took notice

The judging panel recognised that live-in care can transform the end-of-life journey, allowing clients to stay at home with dignity while families feel fully supported. Several strengths were highlighted:

  • Outstanding CQC
Mumby’s holds an Outstanding rating, reflecting our national reputation for excellence.
  • Proven expertise and testimonials
Families regularly share heartfelt thanks for our carers’ professionalism and kindness.
  • Adaptive, nurse-led care
We tailor packages to evolving needs, with carers trained in PEG feeding, stoma care, oxygen therapy and epilepsy emergency medication, ensuring confident, compassionate support.
  • Family ethos
Our team culture is profoundly human. Carers embrace clients as part of the extended Mumby’s family, going the extra mile for companionship and reassurance.
  • Holistic approach
We integrate physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs so clients can remain at home, surrounded by the people and things they love most.

What this looks like in real life

Our work with clients living with multiple sclerosis is one example of complex, coordinated support delivered at home:

  • Double-handed transfers with hoist when required
  • Oxygen monitoring, ensuring masks are worn correctly and saturations tracked, with clear protocols to escalate if needed
  • SALT-led swallow support, adjusting food textures and strategies to keep eating and drinking safe and comfortable
  • Catheter care as part of daily routines
  • Active social life protected: one client, diagnosed in 2011, still enjoys online bridge with friends, gentle trips to shops and cafés, and time in her garden – because care flexes to make those moments possible

This blend of skilled clinical practice, calm day-to-day support and attention to what brings joy is the heart of our palliative ethos.

Growing need, compassionate response

Demand for palliative and end-of-life care is increasing as the population ages and health needs become more complex. Our response is simple and steadfast:

  1. Expert, personalised support
Every plan is built around the person’s goals, values and routines, with careful carer matching for skills, temperament and shared interests.
  2. Tailored training
Nurse-led instruction equips carers to handle complex symptoms safely, while maintaining warmth and dignity.
  3. Outstanding care delivery
Person-centred practice keeps people safely and comfortably at home. We also support our carers with regular wellbeing checks, recognising the emotional weight of end-of-life work.
  4. Integrated care
Close collaboration with palliative teams, SALT specialists, GPs and community services ensures smooth, joined-up support without unnecessary hospital trips.
  5. Whole-person wellbeing
We protect connections – hobbies, friendships, community ties – because emotional and social health matter alongside symptom control.
